Belwadi Mallamma Utsav from tomorrow

Preparations are almost complete for the annual Veer Rani Belwadi Mallamma Utsav-2015 to be held at Belwadi in Bailhongal taluk on Saturday and Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram said here on Thursday that Excise and district in-charge Minister Satish L. Jarkiholi will inaugurate the celebrations and Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Umashree will inaugurate the cultural festival on Saturday at 6.30 p.m.

The celebrations would commence with a ceremonial reception to the Belwadi Jyoti procession. Consumer exhibition, culture programmes and competitions in sports and wrestling have been organised.

Arti Sonvir of Delhi, Atmashree of Moodbidri, Kantha Rohtak of Haryana, Reshma Mane of Kolahapur and Prema Huchannavar of Gadag will be star attractions for the wrestling bouts for women.

A seminar will be organised with a view to educate people about the historical role of Belwadi Mallamma, her life and significance in the freedom struggle. The celebrations will conclude with a fireworks show on March 1. The proceedings during the celebrations would depict the role of Belwadi Mallamma in freedom struggle and her patriotic fervour.

Mr. Jayaram and Additional Deputy Commissioner G.L. Praveen Kumar released the poster and other publicity materials for the event. Also present were Assistant Commissioner of Bailhongal Sub-Division Vijaykumar Honakeri, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations Basawaraj Kambi and Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department Vidyavathi Bhajantri.
