The State government has sanctioned Rs. 50 lakh for a two-day Belwadi Mallamma Utsav, which is scheduled to be held at Belwadi in Bailhongal taluk from February 28.
According to Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram, the celebrations will commence with the inauguration of a district-wide ‘Belwadi Jyoti’ procession, the date for which will be announced later.
Cultural programmes
Cultural programmes featuring artistes from the State and those from outside would be organised.
There would be competitions in sports and wrestling as well, he said.
A seminar would be organised to create awareness among the younger generation on Belwadi Mallamma, her life, and her historical role in the freedom struggle.
Cracker show
The celebrations would conclude with a cracker show on March 1.
Bailhongal MLA Vishwanath Patil said the district administration and the Department of Kannada and Culture should arrange the festivities in such a manner that it would inculcate patriotism among the visitors.
