Those who want to make a career in the music industry, this is the most appropriate time, said Shankar Mahadevan, award-winning composer and playback singer who is part of the Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy trio.
Talking to presspersons , Mr. Mahadevan, who was here to perform at the valedictory of the three-day ‘AURA 2015’, Gogte Institute of Technology’s flagship cultural festival here on Saturday, said unlike nearly two to three decades back, artistes and budding talents had forums to showcase and exhibit their talents and learn.
Exposure
Also, there was lot of exposure through various mediums which was not available to artistes in the past.
He said that though every talented artiste could not become a success but there were wide-spread opportunities for everyone in the growing music industry.
“It is right time for the young students to definitely choose music as career option, which is much more rewarding than in several other fields,” he said.
Options aplenty
He added that once could choose from a range of options such as singing or playing instruments and performing professionally, teaching, sound editing and recording, composing, music arrangement, music software development, provide virtual music for internet, games and programmes/video documentaries, theatre, music production, sound technologist, radio jockeying and so on.
Impact of radio
Stating that the power of radio was not fully understood in India yet, he said the radio was poised to become the most powerful medium for promotion of music in the country in the next five years and it would also open of host opportunities young talents. Later, Mr. Mahadevan and his team gave a more than two-hour long performance, thrilling and captivating a highly jubilant crowd.
