Belagavi DC urged to mitigate water shortage

March 30, 2016 04:34 pm | Updated 04:35 pm IST - Belagavi

Workers of BJP from Belagavi South assembly constituency took out an “empty pot” procession in the city to draw attention of the Belagavi City Corporation and Zilla Panchayat towards drinking water shortage, on Wednesday.

Several women, who participated in the procession, later staged a protest in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, raising slogans and demanding regular water supply.

Submitting a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram, former MLA Abhay Patil said several localities in Belagavi South assembly constituency were facing acute drinking water shortage over the past few weeks and yet neither the BCC nor ZP were taking any concrete measures to mitigate the problem.

Mr. Patil urged Mr. Jayaram to direct the BCC and ZP authorities to dig new borewells and repair the old ones. There were many open wells in the constituency, some of which were owned by the State government, which could be dredged and rejuvenated to ease the water shortage.
