Belagavi City Corporation to take up construction of flyover

March 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - BELAGAVI:

The Belagavi City Corporation is finally taking up the proposal to construct a flyover to reduce the pressure on the main roads in the city.

The 2.2-km long flyover will be built between the Sangolli Rayanna Circle and Sanchayani Circle via Rani Channamma Circle and Bogarves. While a detailed project report has been sought from a Pune-based construction agency, a preliminary estimate suggest that between Rs. 90 crore and Rs. 100 crore could be spent on the construction, corporation commissioner M.R. Ravi Kumar told presspersons here on Saturday.

Dearth of funds

He said there was no dearth of funds as the State government had promised Rs.100 crore as special grant to the corporation in the State Budget. Also, Mr. Ravi Kumar said the National Highways Authority of India would soon start construction of a bypass from Halga to Machhe, which would reduce at least 60 per cent of vehicular traffic between Belagavi and Khanapur/Goa.

On the protest by farmers against the bypass, the commissioner said that the State government had taken a decision on the issue and appropriate compensation would be paid to the farmers who could lose part of their agricultural land.
