Arrive late to office and a day’s salary could be cut. This is a common rule in corporate offices, but now government employees in the Food and Civil Supplies Department may have to get ready to adhere to it.
In a circular issued on November 26, newly appointed Food and Civil Supplies Commissioner S.S. Pattanashetty warned officers/employees that their salary would be deducted without any hesitation if they reported late to duty or went on leave without forwarding leave applications through the manager concerned.
A senior official of the Commissionerate told The Hindu that the circular was issued following several complaints of late-coming and irregular attendance.
Pertains to leave alsoIt warned disciplinary action against employees if they were absent from office without permission from section heads.
Despite oral instructions several times, employees come to the office late, according to officials.
Moreover, employees intimate leave requests through their colleagues or over the telephone, the official added.
There are over 100 employees in the Commissionerate office located on Cunningham Road in the city. All officers/employees are supposed to reach office at 10 a.m. on all working days. As per rules, they should be in office from 10 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., except when on official assignments or have permission from supervising officers.
Employees’ viewBut employees have taken exception to the circular. “How can we submit leave applications if we feel sick the previous night,” an employee said.
“Several employees travel by train and can’t reach office on time if the train reaches late,” another employee, who travels from Kolar, said.
