Bhimalli group candidates win nine seats in governing council

Basavaraj Bhimalli and Suryakant Patil made successful comebacks with resounding wins in the elections to the posts of the president and the vice president, respectively, of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society (HKES) and took charge of the society for the next three years.

While Mr. Bhimalli, a three-time president, made it to his fourth term with an easy victory over the former secretary Sharad Rampure by a margin of 210 votes, Dr. Patil trounced the former vice president B. Mangani by 380 votes.

The elections were a one-sided affair with Mr. Bhimalli making a near clean sweep of the elections. Besides winning the top two posts, nine of the 13 governing council member posts went to the candidates of the Bhimalli panel.

Despite getting the backing of three former presidents, the Rampure panel was swept away in the powerful anti incumbency factor.

Mr. Bhimalli secured 850 votes and Mr. Rampure secured 640 votes. The other two candidates for the post of the president, Vishwanath Patil Hebbal got 139 votes and Rajasekhar Nippani got 5 votes and 15 votes were declared invalid. Dr. Patil polled 841 votes and Mr. Mangani polled 461 votes. The other candidates for the vice president’s post, Sharan Nigudgi polled 278 votes and S.K. Hiremath polled 51 votes.

Those who were elected to the governing council included Ashok T. Patil (775 votes), B.G. Patil (771 votes), G.D. Anakal (680), Nitin B. Jawali (655), Arunkumar Patil (646), S.N. Patil (627), A.V. Deshmukh (623), R.S. Hosgouda (592), Shivanand Mankar (561), N.D. Patil (558), Udaykumar Chincholi (548), Veeranagouda (2), and Basavaraj Patil (447).
