To mark the centenary year of public celebrations of Basava Jayanti, Basava Samiti has planned celebrations across the globe for a year from April 24.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, samiti president Aravind Jatti said this year Basava Jayanti would be celebrated in all parts of the Australian continent. Celebrations would be organised by the jurisdictional Basava Samitis in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth, and in Auckland in New Zealand.
“Although local Basava organisations were observing Basava Jayanti in Sydney earlier, this time we are organising it in a big way,” he said.
In the Western Hemisphere, Basava Jayanti would be celebrated in New York, San Francisco, Washington, Chicago, Boston and many other places. It would be celebrated in London, Dubai and Singapore as well.
In India, the yearlong celebrations would begin with a national programme in New Delhi during which Basaveshwara's Vachanas translated into 10 languages would be dedicated to the nation.
“It is proposed to conduct this programme under the aegis of the Government of Karnataka,” he said.
