November 20, 2014 11:41 am | Updated 11:41 am IST - BC ROAD (Dakshina Kannada):

The government has sanctioned a traffic police station to Bantwal town to be set up at Melkar near the town, according to B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada.

Addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the ‘janata darshan’ (public-contact) programme here on Wednesday Mr. Rai, Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, said that as government land was not available to construct the station, it would be set up on a private plot.

Bus stand plan

Mr. Rai, also the MLA of Bantwal Assembly constituency, said the government had sanctioned Rs. 7.5 crore for building a bus stand for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) at Bantwal. Search for a suitable site was on.

He said the design of the Mini Vidhana Soudha to be built at Bantwal was being prepared. The government had also sanctioned Rs. 2 crore to Bantwal for Nirmal Bantwal Project on a pilot basis. The Minister said estimates were being prepared for an underground drainage project for the town.

He gave away title deeds to three families of Koragas for 80 cents of land each sanctioned to them.

Land surveyors

Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said the government had appointed 53 land surveyors for the district. All land surveys pending in the Revenue Department would be completed by the end of March next, he said.

Yashwant D., president, Bantwal Taluk Panchayat, said hoardings with details of government schemes available should be erected at road junctions in villages. When he discussed it with officials he learnt that there was no specific fund available for such an activity. He also appealed to Mr. Rai to construct a hall in the town for organising public functions.

The Deputy Commissioner said, various facilities under government schemes were given away to 1,800 persons at the programme. The Minister gave away documents/cheques symbolically on the stage. Two tillers were also given away.
