The Hassan district police has directed all banks to appoint security guards at Automated Teller Machine (ATM) kiosks and install CCTV cameras.
The police have set November 30 as the deadline to fulfil these requirements, and asked bank officers not to open kiosks which do not meet these standards.
Ravi D. Channanavar, Superintendent of Police, issued directions in a meeting with bank officers in Hassan on Tuesday. The meeting was held in the wake of the recent attack on a woman in an ATM kiosk, reported in Bangalore. During the meeting, banks were told to employ around-the-clock security guards.
. The banks should ensure they hire guards from a recognised agencies and insist that the guards are changed regularly, the superintendent said. All ATM kiosks should have CCTV cameras with day and night vision capacity, said Mr. Channanavar. The cameras should be installed in such a way that there is a clear view of visitors, and additional digital video recorders (DVRs) should be used to avoid loss of footage in case of damage.
The superintendent also instructed bank officers to install burglar alarms, in a way that the alarm could be heard by outsiders. He insisted on the display of help-lines of the police and banks in ATM kiosks.
