Vijaya Bank conducted its ‘Financial Inclusion' outreach programme at Hulikere and Manigere in Mandya district as part of its efforts to take banking facility to the rural population, according to a release.
Inaugurated
The Financial Inclusion service was inaugurated on Monday and the bank's executive director Shubhalakshmi Panse said Vijaya Bank had been assigned the responsibility of covering 122 villages of the 125 in the district with a population of over 2,000 people. All these villages will be provided with information technology-enabled financial services, the release added.
Ms. Panse appealed to the people of Mandya to avail themselves of the benefits of banking services at their doorsteps. The bank had launched a hassle-free scheme for the benefit of small and marginal farmers, and agricultural labourers so that they could take up economically viable activities. It had already provided links to 1,900 self-help groups.
Smart cards
The bank had also distributed Vijaya Vikas biometric smart cards to a few no-frills account holders, she said. Business correspondents and local agents of the bank had been advised to cover all households under banking network.
