Banking on wheels to be launched on March 30

For the first time in north Karnataka, the Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank will launch the ‘Banking on wheels’ facility here on March 30. Bank chairman N. Ashok Reddy said that under this new scheme, a vehicle installed with an ATM will tour the remote villages and help the people to operate their bank accounts.

It would help beneficiaries of the social security pension schemes and those receiving wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act schemes. Their money is deposited in the bank accounts. They need not go to nearby town for withdrawal and can get their money at the time of need, he said.

Besides, the officer in charge of the vehicle would also sensitise the people about the schemes and facilities offered by the bank. This will help them to have better understanding about the banking business.

The business correspondents appointed by the bank will inform the people about the timings of the vehicle’s arrival through the gram panchayats.

To begin with, nearly 2,800 villages in Dharwad district will be covered under this scheme. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development has provided funds for the purpose, Mr. Reddy said.
