The city will get a teleporting facility, the first in south India, for use by media professionals, R. Roshan Baig, Minister of State for Information, has said.

Teleporting means transmitting visual data (such as by television channels) using an uplinking hub. Speaking at a function organised by the Karnataka Media Academy here to felicitate journalists who won academy awards for 2012–13 and the Rajyotsava award 2013, he said work on the teleporting facility had begun. He said Rs. 5 crore had been earmarked in the budget to set up a state-of-the-art media centre in Bangalore.

“My dream is that Bangalore should also have a media city,” he said and added that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had been very encouraging about the proposal.

Mr. Baig said he would soon announce a change in the name of his Ministry to Information and Public Relations.

On the proposal to give health insurance to journalists, the Minister said a meeting had been held and that he would speak to Mr. Siddaramaiah about it.
