‘Balance farmers’ interests with land availability’

February 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Bidar:

Yoga guru Baba Ram Dev has asked the Union government to balance the interests of farmers with the ease of availability of land for development projects while enacting the land acquisition Bill. He told presspersons at the Bidar Air Force base that the government should come out with a single policy that looked at the welfare of farmers and industrial development. Ram Dev stopped here en route to Chalkapur in Bidar district to unveil a statue of Sri Siddharoodha, a 19th century saint.

“The Union government has great regard for Anna Hazare. In the wake of his protest against the land Ordinance, the government is consulting farmers groups to modify the land acquisition Bill,” he said. Asked whether he would join Mr. Hazare’s strike if invited, Ram Dev said it was not a marriage ceremony to attend by invitation.
