Farmers and leaders of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) offered ‘bagina’ to the Sankalagere lake in Channapatna of Ramanagaram district on Monday.
The lake is one of the major water bodies in Channapatna taluk, irrigating hundreds of hectares of land in the vicinity of Sankalagere for the past several decades. However, it had remained dry for many years owing to scanty rainfall.
The taluk administration had recently launched the ‘Kanva lift irrigation-Sankalagere lake linking project’ to fill the lake. As a result, the lake has been filled to the brim after many years.
C.P. Yogeshwar, Channapatna MLA, who inaugurated the programme for offering ‘bagina’, requested the KRRS leaders and local farmers to offer worship to the lake.
Mr. Yogeshwar said that the project would improve groundwater table and help farmers cultivate their lands. Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL) officials were present.
