After Mysuru and Kalaburagi, Bagalkot became the third district in the State to have a regional centre of Karnataka State Remote Sensing Application Centre (KSRSAC) for the precise recording of data of land related activities.
The centre which was inaugurated on Wednesday by Minister for IT/BT, S.R. Patil, is going to cover six districts: Belagavi, Vijayapura, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri besides Bagalkot district.
It may be noted that the headquarter of centre was established in Bengaluru in 1986 with an objective of providing precise data on natural resources of the State for enabling the government to manage it properly for uniformed growth of the State.
The centre helps the government in implementation of geometric programmes in the State. Geometric is method of colleting, storing, processing, and delivering geographic information for integration and management of geographic data.
The State earlier had two region centres, now with the addition of another centre, the collection of data would help the government in proper managements of the record using the remote sensing satellite.
“The centre would help us in collecting the entire geographic data of these six districts. After the centre commences its activities, we can have better equipped data on land and other natural resources of these six districts”, said Mr. Patil after inaugurating the centre.
He said that besides providing data, the centre would also hold training and awareness programmes for planners, administrators and other NGOs on collecting of geographical data.
Mr. Patil believed that the information would help the government in making plans for sustainable development of the State by optimum utilization of the natural resources.
D.K. Prabhuraj, the director of the centre, said that the centre would provide data collecting using satellites to various government departments, that includes information on land records, mapping, availability of water bodies, soil, crop acreage etc.
He said that the data is collected using global positioning system (GPS) and differential global positioning system (DGPS) by using the remote sensing satellites already placed in different orbits by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
“The centre is certainly a milestone for Bagalkot district”, Mr. Patil said.
