Baba Ramdev’s remarks draw flak

Pourakarmikas of the Mysore City Corporation on Wednesday staged a demonstration in the city condemning the statements of yoga guru Baba Ramdev against AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Dalits.

The pourakarmikas protested holding broomsticks to express their anger against his statements, which they said portrayed Dalit women in a bad light. The pourakarmikas sought action against Mr. Ramdev.

The Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Adidravida Yuvakarmikas Abhirvruhdi Mahasangha also condemned the statements.

‘Arrest Ramdev’

Members of the District Congress Committee took out a protest march in Chamarajanagar demanding the arrest of Mr. Ramdev for his “derogatory” remarks against Mr. Gandhi and Dalits.

Members raised slogans against the BJP and Mr. Ramdev during the march, led by District Congress Committee president K.P. Sadashivmurthy. The march began at Chamarajeshwaraswamy temple and the members formed

a human chain at Bhuvaneshwari Circle and staged a rasta roko for a few minutes. They burnt an effigy of Mr. Ramdev and submitted a memorandum to the district administration. Addressing the protesters, Mr. Sadashivmurthy urged the government to arrest Mr. Ramdev under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
