Azim Premji Foundation announces fellowship

Azim Premji Foundation has announced the annual fellowship programme 2016 and invited applications from eligible candidates in the State, holding a post-graduate or professional degree in any discipline and having three to 10 years of work experience and desirous to contribute to quality and equity of the public education system. Knowledge of Kannada is required as the fellows will be placed in blocks in the rural areas.

According to a release issued by Sudheesh Venkatesh, Chief People Officer of Azim Premji Foundation on Friday, the programme aims to give a deeper experience of education and social sectors to a broad range of people across the industry.

It carries a monthly stipend of Rs. 27,000 (Provident Fund and Health Insurance benefits are in addition). The last date for submitting applications is April 25.

He said that selection will be on the basis of an online assessment followed by personal interviews. The fellowship is a two-year full-time programme wherein the first year involves teaching in government schools and participating in activities of the field institutes of the foundation in rural areas. This will enable the fellows to build a deeper understanding of public education and develop their perspectives of education.

The second year will focus on hands-on projects and capacity building of the fellows, preparing them for the roles they could play in the field institute after completing the fellowship.

Mr. Sudheesh Venkatesh said that “the fellowship programme aims to give an educational and social sector experience to a diverse range people from a variety of backgrounds.”
