The Department of Field Publicity is celebrating NDA’s completion of two years by organising an awareness programme about the Centre’s various schemes. The awareness programme, which is likely to be held across the state, was inaugurated by MP Bhagwant Khuba, here on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Khuba lauded the schemes that were “helping the poor”. “These schemes are all scientifically formulated. As many as 38 schemes have been launched for citizens from economically weaker sections of society,” he said.

He stressed on the need to create awareness among people about these schemes. Apart from launching welfare schemes, the MP said the other two important achievements of the centre was the increased focus on security and improving the efficiency in various departments.

G.D. Hallikeri, Assistant Director of Field Publicity, Ballari regional office, spoke about flagship programs, such as “Swachch Bharat”, “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, “PM Jan Dhan” and a few insurance schemes.

C.S. Ragate, principal, District Health Training Centre, spoke about the decreased gender ratio and need to protect the girl child. The gender ratio has decreased to 911 girls per 1,000 boys in 2011. In 1951, it was 945 girls per 1,000 boys. In Bidar, the number has reduced to 935 from 962 in a span of 20 years. Vijayapura that had 930 girls for a 1,000 boys was among the 100 districts selected for the project across the country.

Gautam Arali, district coordinator for “Swachch Bharat”; Manik Patil, assistant director of MNREGA; and Kavita Hushare of Sahayog, a non-governmental organisation, spoke.
