Shivaraj Tangadgi, Minister of State for Minor Irrigation and district in-charge, has instructed the officials to take steps to avoid a drinking water crisis in the district in summer.

Presiding over a Karnataka Development Programme review meeting here on Saturday, he said the officials should be prepared to avoid supplying drinking water through tankers to villages.

“Even if it is five km away, draw a pipeline and supply water. If there is any objections from anybody for laying the pipelines, lodge a police complaint,” Mr. Tangadagi said.

When informed that 39 overhead tanks in the district were identified as weak and dilapidated, the Minister directed the executive engineer of the panchayat engineering division to get 18 of them demolished by the end of March or by April 15. Taking exception over the Registrar of Societies absenting himself from attending the meeting, Mr. Tangadgi asked the chief executive officer to serve a notice to him. He also stressed the need to increase the number of milk producers’ unions.

When he was informed that withered vegetables were being used at the Legislator’s model higher primary school in Koppal town, Mr. Tangadgi directed the officials to visit the school and verify the quality of foodgrains and vegetables.

Karadi Sanganna, MP; Raghavendra Hitnal, Doddanagouda Patil, Halappachar, legislators; Amaresh Kulagi, Koppal Zilla Panchayat president; R.R. Jannu, Deputy Commissioner; P. Raja, Superintendent of Police; and Krishna Udupudi, chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat, were present.
