The autorickshaws ferrying school children, which were on strike for last two days in Hubballi, will resume services from Monday.

The autorickshaws, which were agitating against the district administration’s directions barring ferrying more than six children per trip as part of school children safety norms, decided to withdraw the strike on temporary basis at a joint meeting of the Dharwad District Autorickshaw Driver’s Union and Lakshman Hirekerur Auto Driver’s Association held here on Sunday.

The union president Babajan Mudhol, general secretary Devanand Jagapur and others were present.

A release by Mr. Jagapur stated that the meeting has decided to withdrew the strike and take part in the meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner in Dharwad on Monday. The unions would decide the future course of action following the outcome of the Monday’s meeting, he said.

Mr. Jagapur said at the meeting that the members favoured placing the grievances of the autorickshaw operators and driver’s at the meeting. The unions would take up matters related to the issues involving in ferrying school children and repairing the auto metres would be discussed at the meeting.

The meeting has also decided to organise a one-month campaign to conduct the fitness certification of the autorickshaw drivers and creating awareness against the middlemen menace at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), the release said.
