A 22-year-old youth, who was reportedly assaulted by family members of a girl four days ago, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Thimlapur near Hirisave in Channarayapatna taluk on Monday night.

The police gave the name of the deceased as Chandan (22), an autorickshaw driver. His brother Chethan has filed a complaint with Hirisave police alleging that Chandan committed suicide because of humiliation he suffered at the hands of family members of a girl.

“He had an affair with a girl of Honnadevihalli in K.R. Pet taluk of Mandya district. Recently her family members came to know about it. Her parents and relatives caught hold of him in Hirisave and beat him up severely in public on Friday (September 7). As the matter was reported in a section of the media, he was upset and mentally disturbed”, said the complaint.

Hirisave police have registered a complaint against five persons including the girl. Post-mortem was conducted on Tuesday. However, police have not found any death note. Both girl and boy belong to the same caste.
