Mysore autorickshaws will go off the roads on Monday as the auto drivers and owners association have called for a strike seeking a hike in the fares.

The strike call has been issued by the Federation of Mysore City and District Auto Drivers Association which has 18 associations in the district as its members. Their key demand pertains to an immediate hike in the minimum fare to Rs.30 from Rs.20 and an upward revision of rate per km from Rs.11 per km to Rs.15 per km.

The associations want other issues to be resolved including establishment of a welfare fund for the benefit of auto drivers, identify them as beneficiaries under various Central and State Government schemes and distribute sites to them, sanction loan to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe auto drivers to purchase auto rickshaws among others.

The associations also want the Government to bear the entire cost on installation of meters and the subsidy to replace old autos should be increased from Rs.15000 at present to Rs.30,000.

The strike call has been issued by the Federation of Mysore City and District Auto Drivers Association. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Regional Transport Authority has been convened to discuss the issue on Tuesday.

Additional buses

The KSRTC has said it will run additional services for the benefit of the commuters to cope with the auto strike and they will ply on the important and high-density routes.
