Janata Dal (S) leader H.D. Revanna on Monday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to hold discussions with deputy commissioners and zilla panchayat chief executive officers on the drought situation and seek Central assistance to provide relief to farmers.

He told presspersons here that the method of assessing drought situation was flawed. Some taluks where there was no problem had been declared drought-hit, he claimed. He claimed that roads in Hassan district had not been repaired. The government had failed to clear Rs. 2,000-crore arrears of the Public Works and Irrigation departments, he alleged.

Mr. Revanna alleged that the Ruling party was “victimising” Public Works Secretary Chikkarayappa. If there was any truth in the allegations against him, action could be taken, he added.

The JD(S) leader urged the State government to approach the Union government for a package for tobacco growers. He alleged that no officer visited Guladakuppe in K.R. Nagar taluk where a tobacco grower committed suicide.
