G.H. Tippareddy, MLA, has instructed Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer N. Manjushri to prepare a list of beneficiaries within 15 days for distribution of sites under the Ashraya scheme in the taluk.

Speaking at a meeting of taluk-level officers here on Wednesday, he said that action could be initiated against officials if they failed to provide the list in stipulated time.

“If there are excess sites in gram panchayats, they should be reserved for government buildings. If there is shortage of sites, the officials should choose beneficiaries through draw of lots,” he said. Mr. Tippareddy informed the meeting that land was available for development of 308 sites under the scheme in D.S. Halli, Oraguntarmalige, Ayanahalli, Biravar, Lakshmisagar and Annihal gram panchayats, but the officers had not taken steps to hold gram sabhas to choose beneficiaries.

As per the records provided by revenue inspectors, 1,148 acres was available for development of sites. Tahsildars had been instructed to give a detailed report. Ms. Manjushri said that officers had been instructed not to clear bills for toilets constructed in 2012-13 as there were allegations that bogus bills had been produced.
