Sending out a strong signal for his remarks against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress party has asked Devarahipparagi Congress MLA, A.S. Patil Nadahalli to resign from his position if he has any self-respect.

“The party has already issued a notice to him and given two weeks time to reply for his remarks against the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, the party asks him resign from the post of MLA if he does not follow discipline”, said, District In-charge Minister, M.B. Patil at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Accompanied by other Congress MLAs, C. S. Nadagouda, the special representative of the government to New Delhi, Raju Algur and Yeshwantraigouda Patil, the Minister said that the MLA was not only making baseless allegations against the Chief Minister, but also behaving irresponsibly which was only damaging the party’s image.

It may be noted that recently, Mr. Nadahalli had accused the Chief Minister of giving false figure on allocation of funds to irrigation sector, and dared the Chief Minister to have a public debate on the issue.

“The party, in no case can tolerate such indiscipline and thus, a disciplinary action would be taken against him”, said Mr. Nadagouda and Mr. Patil.

Countering the allegations of the MLA that the ruling Congress government has allocated only 8 per cent of the total budget to irrigation sector, Mr. Patil said that under planned size, the government has allocated 16 per cent this year.

“The MLA must get his facts corrected before making any statement”, the Minister said.

On the MLAs demand for the separate Statehood for North Karnataka region or allocation of at least Rs. 30,000 crore for this region, Mr. Patil made it clear that nobody has any objection for seeking more funds for the development, but demanding separate statehood was not acceptable at any cost.

“Before asking for separate State, the MLA must check the financial status of States that have been bifurcated. Telangana which is carved out of Andhra Pradesh has no money even to pay the salaries of the government employees”, he said.

Intervening in the matter, Indi MLA, Yeshwantaraigouda Patil said that if Mr. Nadahalli had real concern for NK, then he should have made this as an issue before the election and should have sought the votes on that base instead of raising the matter now.
