Hundreds of youths from different parts of the State gathered in the city on Thursday to participate in a rally organised by the All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) to highlight the growing unemployment among the educated.

The protesters, who took out a procession from Chiklalbagh, gathered at Banappa Park.

All India President of AIDYO B.R. Manjunath said employment was the right of every citizen. “Everyone who is willing to work should have a right to employment in a democratic set up. The government should not think that it is giving them alms,” he said. He said the government should pay unemployment dole to the youth until it provided them appropriate jobs.

Urging the Government to stop appointment of people on casual and contract basis, he said the thousands of jobs that were lying vacant in various universities and Education Department should be filled.

State President of AIDYO Ramanjanappa Aldalli urged the government to start the process of recruiting D Ed and B Ed graduates to fill the vacant teacher posts.

He regretted that the job market even in the private sector had become stagnant in the last three years. The government is merely creating an illusion that it is creating jobs by organising global investors meet. “We don’t want illusions, we want jobs,” he added.

Manjula Nayak, a II PU student, who came to take part in the rally from Indi in Bijapur, said the government had to keep recruiting employees regularly.

“Employment is our birth right”, she said.

Later, AIDYO submitted a memorandum containing 16 demands to the Chief Minister.
