Scene shifts to Delhi; decision on leadership change demand likely by weekend
The nine Ministers from the Yeddyurappa camp who resigned on Friday to bring pressure on the Bharatiya Janata Party to replace Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda relented and withdrew their resignations on Monday following stern instructions from the party high command.
Firm stand
The high command is learnt to have made it clear to them that it would not hold consultations on their demand if they did not withdraw their resignations.
The withdrawal of the resignations has paved the way for the high command to begin consultations with the Yeddyurappa faction. According to sources in the party’s State unit, the central leaders are expected to take a call on their demand for leadership change by this weekend.
“Earlier, the central leadership had decided to examine their demand only after the Presidential polls. But, now it wants to put an end to the political uncertainty by taking a decision perhaps by this weekend on whether to keep D.V. Sadananda Gowda as Chief Minister or replace him with Jagadish Shettar,” sources said.
Meanwhile, the scene has shifted to Delhi with Ministers from the Yeddyurappa camp, who withdrew their resignations, going to the Capital to attend the wedding reception of party president Nitin Gadkari’s son on Monday night and also to meet central leaders for consultations. While Mr. Sadananda Gowda went to Delhi to take part in a meeting of NDA Chief Ministers, State party president K.S. Eshwarappa has gone to the national capital to attend the wedding reception and hold talks with central leaders.
Before leaving for Delhi, the Chief Minister said he would abide by the decision taken by the high command on the leadership issue.
“I will follow any instructions given by the high command in this regard. I had said this before taking oath as Chief Minister and am reiterating it now.”
Dig at detractors
At the same time, he took an indirect dig at his detractors. “People of the State will reject us permanently if we indulge in selfish politics at a time when the State is reeling under a serious drought. The need of the hour is to focus on drought relief,” he said.

It is sad to note that a national party has to resort to caste politics
in karnataka to servive if it wants to continue in power. can it think
of going to poll in all seriousness to get a fresh mandate to give the
ailing drought sticken state now a good governence.
Good! BJP High Command did a good job by taking a strong action against those who wished to take over through any means. Why Mr.B.S. Yeddyurappa had to give up the office of CM should have been looked into first. Thereafter, why should he aspire again? The present dissidents should have revolted at the time of his outgoing. Now, it does not look good. Either keep your hold strong from the very beginning by ensuring transparency or get yourself guided by those powers which took you to the present point.
Mr Yeddyurappa the tantrum KIng will not rest content and will create crisis after crisis till he has hopes of being cleared in his cases. His 9 followers include those who joined from other parties and those who have benefited from his largesse. It is a pity the BJP central command is dragging their feet instead of taking decisive action in throwing him out of the party. he has brought the party into disrepute and he will again try to throw Shettar if he does not oblige his cronies. Here is a man who may have won the the l;ast election for the BJp by inducing MLAs from other parties with the help of Janardhan Rdddy and having also won a vote of confidence which the Supreme COurt has held to be illegal. Cannot Mr jaitley a learned lawyer see the danger of supporting such a person just because Mr Gadkari for reasons best known to himself is trying to please Mr Yedyurappa.
This is really ridiculous! There are differences in the party itself.
They are clearly showcasing their fight for chair and power. It is good
to hear that Mr. Yeddyurappa has got some loyal people with him who are
hardly found in politics but these are the people who are not respecting
their positions and duties(because they were ready to resign for no
noble cause). BJP should maintain dignity of its party instead of
fighting amongst themselves which is not for the benefit of the state
but for their individual benefits.
The one way to resolve likewise political crisis is to talk what
NDA central leadership is doing but unfortunately with time it has
developed so much internal conflicts including corruption charges
that crisis appease only opposition. It is neither good for NDA nor
for public. Election causes lot of expenditure. Moreover frequent
elections is not good sign for democracy.
When Devegowda refused to let BJP rule during the JD(S)- BJP coalition rule, people thought grave injustice was done to the BJP. However, looking at the way the BJP leadership has been fighting for power, i am sure a lot of people like me do not want to vote for BJP anymore. JD(S) looks like the best option at this point in time - given the bickerings within Cong and BJP.
The so called ministers are not serious about their job. They are wasting time, money in meetings and journeys.Minister should be made accountable for all their misdeeds.
BJP in Karnataka is making a mockery of itself. It would be prudent to dissolve the assembly and go to mid term polls rather than to hang on to power. Thats one way to tell Yedurrapa if he still carries the confidence of his community. It would go a long way for BJP Central Leadership to prove that BJP is actually a party with a difference. By continuing the current circus going on in Karnatka, you are only helping Congress which could be a game changer for 2014.
