A.R. Mitra chosen for Sediyapu award

Writer and researcher A.R. Mitra has been chosen for the annual Sediyapu Award instituted by the Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Research Centre here.

In a release issued here on Friday, Director of the Centre H. Krishna Bhat said that Prof. Mitra had been chosen for the award for his contribution to the field of Kannada literature. Born on February 25, 1935, at Belur in Hassan district, he was educated at Hassan, Arsikere, Kolar and Mysuru.

Under tutelage of his teacher Prabhushankar, Prof. Mitra not only developed an interest in literature but also an inclination to humour writing.

Prof. Mitra served as a lecturer at St. Joseph College in Bengaluru and retired as the Principal of Maharani College there.His works include ‘Vachankararu Mathu Shabdakalpa’, ‘Naneke Koreyuttene’, ‘Olanotagalu’, ‘Balconiya Bandugalu’, ‘Yaaro Bandiddaru’, ‘Jagattina Pranaya Kathegala Samputa’, ‘Prema Nadiya Dadgalali’ and ‘Kumaravyasa Bharatha Kathamitra’.
