Writer and researcher A.R. Mitra has been chosen for the annual Sediyapu Award instituted by the Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Research Centre here.
In a press release issued here on Friday, Director of the Centre H. Krishna Bhat, said that Prof. Mitra had been chosen for the award for his contribution to the field of Kannada literature. Born on February 25, 1935, at Belur in Hassan district, he had his education in Hassan, Arsikere, Kolar and Mysuru.
Learning under tutelage of his teacher Prabhushankar, Prof. Mitra not only developed interest in literature but also an inclination to humour writing.
After doing his post-graduation in Mysore University, Prof. Mitra served as a lecturer at St. Joseph College in Bengaluru and retired as Principal of Maharani College there.
His works include ‘Vachankararu Mathu Shabdakalpa,’ ‘Naneke Koreyuttene,’ ‘Olanotagalu,’ ‘Balconiya Bandugalu,’ ‘Yaaro Bandiddaru,’ ‘Jagattina Pranaya Kathegala Samputa,’ ‘Prema Nadiya Dadgalali’ and ‘Kumaravyasa Bharatha Kathamitra’.
He has received several awards including Navaratnam award, Kavyananda award, Goruru Sahitya Prashasti, Shivaram Karanth Prashasti, Anakra Prashasti, the release added.
