Appropriation Bill adopted

The Legislative Assembly on Friday adopted the Karnataka Appropriation Bill, 2014 without any discussion, amid dharna by Opposition Janata Dal (Secular) members.

The Bill seeks to authorise payment and appropriation of Rs. 3,296.46 crore from the Consolidated Fund of the State towards certain services for 2014–15.

Amid the din created by protesting JD(S) members, who were demanding that minimum support price for maize should be increased, the Bill was adopted.

The Assembly also adopted the Karnataka Stamp (Second Amendment) Bill, 2014, which seeks to reduce or remit stamp duty in public interest, payable on any instrument executed by key projects of core area in special economic zone made in the new industrial policy.

The Assembly also adopted the Karnataka Preservation of Trees (Amendment) Bill, 2014 which exempts seeking permission for felling certain tree species. The Bill, among other things, seeks to reconstitute the Tree Authority and change the designation of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (General) as the Head of the Forest Department.
