Former Deputy Superintendent of Police Anupama Shenoy has decided to take a plunge into politics by floating a new party.
“Yes, I am serious about floating a new political party. We have already started the spadework and [we] hope to complete all the formalities as early as possible so that we can contest in the upcoming Assembly elections,” Ms. Shenoy told The Hindu .
Apart from striving to achieve ‘Gram Swaraj’, the proposed party will focus on the fight against corruption and work to bring about “pro-environment and pro-women” policies, she said. “The party will also act as a bridge between government servants and the public,” she added.
Ms. Shenoy also expressed her plans in a Facebook post, in which she stated that she had met several people after quitting and a majority suggested that she float a political party.
“When I broached the subject with my close friends and like-minded people, they supported me. So I have posted about my intentions on Gandhi Jayanti, to realise Gandhiji’s dreams of Gram Swaraj,” the post said.
