Mysuru got a second haat bazaar with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announcing a ‘Mysuru Haat’ on the lines of ‘Delhi Haat’ at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds for promotion of tourism.

The first such bazaar (open-type market) was set up by the JSS Institutions at Hebbal Industrial Area here. It holds handloom and handicrafts expo, where artisans from across the country showcase their creations.

The Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA), which holds the Dasara exhibition annually, is developing a masterplan for converting the Dasara exhibition grounds into a round the clock exhibition and events hub.

The KEA came up with a proposal to hold exhibitions, events, conventions, and amusement activities through the year, with the exhibition grounds now limited to holding Dasara events.

A private agency is preparing the masterplan, incorporating all the infrastructure and attractions for turning the ground into a hub for tourists through the year. Haat bazaar was one such proposal, which got a green signal from the government this time. However, no allocation has been cited in the budget. Around 3.3 million tourists visit Mysuru in around three lakh vehicles annually.
