State BJP President B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday lambasted Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the people by his comments pertaining to Ayudha Puja celebrations held in his office at the Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

“Mr. Anjaneya may have personal views and opinions on certain issues but as Minister, he has no right to hurt the feelings and sentiments of people who undertake religious rituals with great reverence. Mr. Anjaneya has done great disservice to the people he represents,” Mr Yeddyurappa said, while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a BJP programme organised at Devanahalli, on the outskirts of the city.

The BJP leader further said he would like to ask Chief Minister Siddaramaiah how it is fair and right to keep Mr. Anjaneya in the Cabinet after he showed “contempt and disrespect” to the people. Mr. Anjaneya, on Thursday, had opposed puja being held in his office.

“Does Mr. Anjanaya mean to say that all those who conducted Ayudha Puja in the State Secretariat in the past were wrong? This needless and anti-people statement streaks of arrogance,” Mr. Yeddyurappa added.

In response to a question about the arrest of Jagadish Karanth, a senior functionary of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Mr. Yeddyurappa said: Having utterly failed to maintain law and order, the Congress government has resorted to the cowardice act of arresting RSS functionaries on non-issues. The Congress is trying to vitiate the atmosphere by targeting the sangh pariwar. This has created a strong resentment among the people against the Congress government.”

Mr. Siddaramaiah’s claim that he would continue to be the Chief Minister after the 2018 elections and will perform Dasara puja again next year, the BJP leader said the people have decided to defeat Congress in the elections and bring BJP back to power with comfortable majority.
