The Chief Minister’s ambitious programme of providing domestic LPG connections to the needy and making the State smoke-free will be rolled out in Dharwad district on December 1.
Minister for Mines and Geology and district in-charge Vinay Kulkarni told presspersons here on Friday evening that the Mukhyamantri Anila Bhagya Scheme would help the rural poor, BPL cardholders, Antyodaya cardholders and construction workers.
Mr. Kulkarni said that the government’s scheme was aimed at helping the poor to improve their living standards, particularly those who are facing breathing problems due to the use of firewood and kerosene.
A sum of ₹ 4,040 would be spent on each connection by the government. Under the scheme, each beneficiary would get a two-burner gas stove and two LPG cylinders, he said. The Minister said that there were 55,919 families in Dharwad district without LPG connection and it had been planned to cover all these families under the scheme.
In the first phase, 17,921 beneficiaries would get new LPG connections, he said.
The Minister clarified that under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwal Yojana, each beneficiary had to deposit ₹ 1,650 to get new LPG connection. He said under the Central scheme, 22,000 beneficiaries had been selected in the district and of them, 13,000 beneficiaries had received new LPG connections already. He said that under the Anil Bhagya scheme, the beneficiaries would not have to pay anything,
To a query, Mr. Kulkarni said that another scheme had been launched under which beneficiary giving up kerosene under PDS would get LED solar lamps worth ₹ 300, with a charger.
