The ancient Sangeet Mahal, built during Adil Shahi dynasty, may not only get facelift but will also remain open for public as the district administration is mulling to convert the place into a tourist destination.
Sangeet Mahal largely remains close for public view and comes to life only during Navaraspur Utsav. Permanent installation of musical fountain will be one of the works done for facelift of the ancient tank.
The decision to develop the area for public was first announced by the District Incharge Minister, M.B. Patil at the valedictory function of Navaraspur Utsav on March 1.
“After the announcement, the district administration is planning to set up the fountain permanently as it was installed only for the Utsav. These development works will help in boosting tourism”, said D. Randeep, Deputy Commissioner.
Speaking to The Hindu he said that the Minister has promised to sponsors for the project. “Meanwhile, we are also looking for organisations such as NTPC to sponsor and adopt monuments for development”, he said.
Also, since the monuments come under Archaeological Survey of India, ASI permission is essential before proceeding with any developmental work.
Mr. Ranadeep mentioned that he had invited officials from Dharwad ASI to discuss the matter.
With regard to continuing the boat service at the pond of Gagan Mahal, he said for that too, the ASI permission is required. He, however, hoped that since the objective is good, they may get the permission soon.
