Close on the heels of Unique Identification Authority of India chairman Nandan Nilekani expressing his wish to contest the Lok Sabha election from Bangalore South on Congress ticket, BJP national general secretary Ananth Kumar on Saturday maintained that the election would be fought on the basis issues and not on the basis of individuals.
After inaugurating the State executive meeting of the BJP’s Legal, Small, Medium and Large Industries, Economic and CA cells here, Mr. Kumar, who is Bangalore South MP, told presspersons that corruption, price rise, security concerns, and stable leadership would play a major role in the election.
Replying to queries on Mr. Nilekani’s intention to contest against him, he said: “If Mr. Nilekani wants to contest on Congress ticket, he must make his stand known on corruption, price rise, security lapses, maladministration, and stable leadership.”
Claiming that people were disillusioned with the Congress, he accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission M.S. Ahluwalia of being responsible for inflation, weak economy, and rise in the prices of essential commodities.
In such a situation, the only leader who could bail out India and provide political stability was the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Mr. Kumar said.
