Amit Shah in Mysuru tomorrow

September 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - MYSURU:

BJP national president Amit Shah will participate in the valedictory function of the Raitha Chaitanya Yatra here on Sunday. This is Mr. Shah’s first visit to Mysuru after taking over as the BJP president.

The yatra had been launched by the BJP to prevail upon the State government to address the problems of farmers.

This is the first phase of the yatra and the party is planning to hold the second round next month to cover remaining parts of the State. BJP leaders had been making arrangements for the event in which many farmers are expected to participate. The yatra was flagged off from Haveri.

Leaders such as the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, BJP State unit president Pralhad Joshi, and Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda will be present at the event at J.K. Grounds at 11.30 a.m.

Mr. Sadananda Gowda, who was in Mysuru on Thursday, held a meeting with local leaders.

Pratap Simha, MP, told presspersons that Mr. Shah would send a message to farmers that the Union government was with them and persuade them against taking the extreme step.

More farmers had committed suicide in this part of the region, including Mysuru and Mandya, and the yatra was launched to instil confidence among them, he added.

Publicity campaign

Meanwhile, Mr. Simha flagged off a publicity campaign to spread awareness about the yatra on M.G. Road here on Friday. Local leaders, including S.A. Ramdas, were present.
