Three persons were electrocuted and two others injured at Kyatmaranahalli in Mysuru when they were in the process of erecting cut outs and making other preparations for Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations.
The tragedy happened around 11.30 p.m. on Thursday. Manikanta (24), Kumaraswamy (30) and Shivu (25) along with their associates were installing a cut-out frame and a decorative arch to prepare for the celebrations slated for Friday. In the process, the giant frame of the arch came in contact with a live overhead cable and Kumaraswamy was instantly electrocuted and died on the spot.
Manikanta and Shivu, who were assisting him, too suffered severe burn injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital. But they succumbed to their injuries.
A pall of gloom has enveloped the locality with hear-rending cries of the family members of the victims. The bodies were shifted to the KR Hospital mortuary for post mortem and district in charge Minister H.C.Mahadevappa expressed his grief over the tragedy. He also directed that a compensation of ₹ 2 lakh be paid to the family members of the deceased and later visited the mortuary. Udaygiri police have registered a case and are investigating.
