Ambedkar among India’s tallest leaders: Sharanprakash Patil

The birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar was celebrated by paying floral tributes to the Ambedkar statue by Minister for Medical Education Sharanprakash Patil in Kalaburagi on Friday.

Recalling the struggle of Dr. Ambedkar for the uplift of deprived sections and to abolish untouchability from society, Dr. Patil said Dr Ambedkar’s vision of equal opportunities for oppressed and marginalised in all fields reflects that his contribution was not limited to one community.

Protect their rights

Alok Kumar, Inspector General of Police (North Eastern Range), said Dr. Ambedkar should not be confined to a particular community; he was among the tallest leaders of India and has influenced thinkers across the world. Mr. Kumar assured to protect the rights of oppressed and downtrodden sections and protect their dignity to lead their life.

He also directed officials to form a special beat committee for the protection of Dr. Ambedkar statues in the region.

Former Minister Qamarul Islam also spoke on the occasion. Sanjay Makal, professor of PDA Engineering College, delivered a special lecture. Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Chief Executive Officer of Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat, Kalaburagi City Corporation commissioner P. Sunilkumar, Superintendent of Police N. Shashikumar and Banthe Sanganand of Siddhartha Buddha Vihar, Kalaburagi were among those present.

All the major roads in the city were decked up with festoons and youths took out a procession carrying portraits of Dr. Ambedkar.

Free food and juice were distributed in various parts of the city.
