Ambareesh supporters stage protest

Supporters of Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh staged a protest here on Saturday demanding disciplinary action against those who recently sent a report against him to the All-Indian Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

Although only a few supporters participated, their demonstration disrupted traffic for a while on the busy Bengaluru-Mysuru highway near Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar circle. The protesters shouted slogans against those who sent the report and urged the KPCC chief G. Parameshwara to expel them from the party.

A video footage of Mr. Ambareesh dancing with his supporters in a poorly-lit area went viral on the internet recently. On December 1, some members of the Mandya District Congress Committee (MDCC) and leaders of the Ahinda Yuva Vedike, a federation of Backward Classes, Minorities and Dalits, sent a report to Mr. Gandhi seeking action against the Minister for allegedly “tarnishing the image of the party”.

In the three-page report, Mr. Ambareesh has been criticised for speaking in public against the Congress, ignoring loyal party activists and skipping the Cabinet meeting held recently at Kalaburagi. They had also sent copies of the report to AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, Mr. Siddaramaiah and Dr. Parameshwara.

Protesters told reporters that some party workers were trying to tarnish Mr. Ambareesh’s image.
