Karnataka Minister for Housing M.H. Ambareesh returned here on Friday to a rousing reception by fans and supporters, after his medical treatment at a hospital in Singapore for over a month.
Mr. Ambareesh, also a veteran actor, was admitted to a private hospital here following lung infection and resultant fever on February 22 and was thereafter shifted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on March 1.
Addressing a press conference with his actor-wife Sumalatha, son Abhishekh and Home Minister K.J. George by his side, he said that his wife had promised his fans that she would bring back their “rebel star in good health” and she had kept her promise.
Tension Mr. Ambareesh, who arrived in the forenoon, drove straight to his residence in JP Nagar from the airport even as a large crowd waited outside his house. There was tension for a while as the police tried to disperse those gathered, although the fans refused to budge.
“A large number of people visited Singapore to enquire about my health. I fought with the doctors to allow them talk to me. Regardless of caste, creed and culture, they prayed for my recovery. I am fortunate enough to be with you,” said an emotionally-charged Ambareesh, while thanking his fans for the love and affection they showered on him.
Campaign Asked whether he would campaign for the party, Mr. Ambareesh said that he would campaign for the Congress candidate from Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency, Nandan Nilekani, on Saturday and also sort out the problems in the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency to assure a victory for actor-turned-politician Ramya.
“I will campaign for her on Sunday. There is no question of Ms. Ramya losing this election,” he said.
