The Almatti dam is on the verge of reaching its full storage capacity as the inflow into the reservoir has substantially increased.
According to the officials of Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited (KBJNL), the dam will possibly reach its full storage capacity by Monday itself.
This will be the first major dam in the State to be get filled completely this year. No other dams have been receiving such a quantum of inflow.
The officials said that just about a feet of water is needed to enable the dam to reach its full storage level of 519.60 meters.
On Saturday, the total water level recorded was 519.25 meters. While the dam’s total capacity is 123 tmc, on Saturday the officials recorded 117.038 tmc. The inflow was 69658 cusecs, the outflow was 31683 cusecs.
“When the dam fills up completely, then we will increase the outflow based on the quantum of inflow,” the officials said.
At present, the water is being discharged to power generation unit, however if needed crest gates could also be opened to release more water. Around 20 tmc have already been discharged to power generation units.
However, officials said that the process has delayed by over a week this year. The dam had reached the full storage level in second week of July last year.
It may be noted that before the dam started receiving water, the dam had only 10.123 tmc of water.
