At the time of joining the Congress, the former Minister Mumtaz Ali Khan alleged that his affiliation to the BJP as a nominated MLC under Special Category had been “forged” and he had discovered it now.
This has angered the Bharatiya Janata Party, which is wondering how he could have accepted the ministerial position in its government if he did not even want to be affiliated to it.
“Mr. Khan’s allegations of forging the affiliation to the BJP has only exposed his opportunism,” BJP State general secretary Raghunarth Rao Malkapure alleged at a press conference in Bangalore soon after Mr. Khan levelled such charges. “Mr. Khan enjoyed all the powers in the BJP, both in the organisation as well as the ministry.
He was the party State president, MLC and Minister.
If his sensitivity about being affiliated to the BJP was really true, he would not have accepted those posts,” Mr. Malkapure said while pointing out that Prof. Khan was with the BJP from 1988 to 2013.
Meanwhile, Council Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy has accepted Mr. Khan’s resignation from the State Legislative Council.
