Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Wednesday told the Legislative Assembly that superintendents of police (SPs) of all the districts would be asked to check if there were any illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in their areas.
Replying to BJP member Sunil Kumar V. during the Question Hour, the Minister said if there were any illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, they would be prevented from getting electors’ photo identity card (EPIC) and Aadhaar.
Earlier, another BJP member, D.N. Jeevaraj, said a large number of migrant labourers had now flocked estates in Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga. Though they were claiming to be from Assam, they were appearing like Bangladeshis, he alleged.
Replying to a query by Independent member P. Rajeev, Transport Minister H.M. Revanna said it was not possible to bring in a rule for compulsory use of Kannada in number plates of vehicles as they would ply inter-State too. However, there was an option for them to use both Kannada and English number plates, he said.
