The Department of Health and Family Welfare has made elaborate arrangements to administer polio drops to 1,59,675 children below five years in the district on January 18, District Health Officer Nagaraj Naik has said.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Naik said the department had deputed 160 medical officers to monitor the polio immunisation programme. Out of the total 3,918 field staff, 600 would be from the Health Department, 2,425 from anganwadi centres and 893 Accredited Social Health Activists(ASHA), he said.
897 boothsPolio drops would be administered at all primary and community health centres in the district. In addition, 897 booths would be set up in public places like bus terminals, railway stations, shandies, markets and temples. The booths would function till January 21, he said.
Volunteers would involved in the door-to-door visits for three days from January 19to cover missing children. The department has made arrangements for administering polio drops to children of nomadic families and migrant workers, he said. The department, in association with Rotary Club, had organised a series of programmes across the district, including bicycle jatha and processions by schoolchildren to create awareness among people about the pulse polio campaign, he said.
