All preparations are in place for Saturday’s Congress rally on the campus of the University of Agricultural Sciences on the outskirts of Raichur.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, which is holding the rally, would felicitate Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary, for the amendment introduced to Article 371 (J) providing special status for Hyderabad Karnataka region, during the Manmohan Singh-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge will attend the programme.

Addressing a press conference at the guesthouse on the university campus here on Thursday, Minister for Higher Education and district in-charge Tanvir Sait and MLC S.N. Boseraju said that around one lakh people across the region are expected to participate in the rally.

All arrangements for seats and lunch have been made, they said.

According to sources, senior Cabinet colleagues of Mr. Siddaramaiah are also participating in the rally.

Meanwhile, Rachir has been fully spruce up to welcome the Congressmen for the rally. Posters, banners and hoardings have been placed at every prime corners and traffic circles of the city.

Adequate security arrangements have been made, the police sources said.

Police personnel from Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgir, Vijayapura, Ballari, Davangere and Bagalkot have been deployed for duty, the sources added.
