K.R. Ramesh Kumar, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, said dialysis units would start functioning at all taluk-level hospitals from December 10.

The Minister was responding to questions during his visit to a Public Health Centre at Kamalapur in Hosapete taluk on Monday.

“The government had decided to provide dialysis services to patients in all taluk hospitals under a private-public partnership (PPP) model. The preliminary process was complete and the units were likely to begin functioning from December 10 onwards,” he said.

Mr. Kumar said the government had been taking appropriate steps to streamline the functioning in government hospitals and stern action was being initiated against erring doctors and other staff.

Appreciating the effort of B.S. Anand Singh, Vijayanagar MLA, in ensuring the effective functioning of government hospitals in his constituency, Mr. Kumar said he expected all other elected representatives to visit the government hospitals in their respective constituencies and provide feedback so that the government could take appropriate measures to ensure good health services to the people. “Like Mr. Anand Singh, other elected representatives, MPs, MLAs and members of panchayats should visit the hospitals periodically and bring to our notice the shortcomings so that we can take proper steps in this regard,” he said, and added that public awareness was very important for the smooth functioning of government institutions.

Mr. Kumar, after going round the PHC, instructed the department’s engineering section to prepare an estimate for taking up roof repairs. On learning that many deliveries take place in the hospital, he assured of declaring the PHC a 24x7 hospital and depute additional staff to handle delivery cases. He also assured to post Dr. Kamalamma in response to the demand from the MLA and people.

About the Karnataka Private Medical Establishment (Amendment) Bill, 2017, he said that it had been forwarded to Governor for his assent. “Once we get this, we will frame the rules and implement them,” he said.
