April 20, 2012 11:25 am | Updated 11:25 am IST - Hassan:

There is some good news for school children in drought-hit regions of Hassan district. Even when their schools are closed for summer holidays in April and May, midday meals will be served to them in their schools on all days, including Sundays.

Six taluks in Hassan

Chief Executive Officer of the Hassan zilla panchayat S.T. Anjan Kumar has said in a release that Akshara Dasoha or the midday meal programme will continue in schools in Arsikere, Arkalgud, Belur, Channarayapatna, Hassan and Holenarasipur taluks in April and May. This is in keeping with the State government order which said that the Akshara Dasoha should not stop in drought-hit regions in the State during summer season.

'Have lunch at school'

Mr. Anjan Kumar has appealed to parents in the six taluks to their children studying in classes from 1 to 8 to their respective schools at 1 p.m. everyday to have meals.
