The All-India United Trade Union Centre (AIUTUC) has strongly condemned Monday’s police lathicharge in Bengaluru on garment workers protesting against the new Provident Fund scheme denying them the right to withdraw their contributions fully.

K. Somashekar, president of the State AIUTUC, in a press release, termed the police act as ‘inhuman’ as the garment workers were demanding their rights.

According to him, the new rule proposed by the Union government denying the PF account holders from withdrawing their contribution fully was not only ‘anti-worker’ but also deprived the account holders of their legitimate rights to make use of the facility during emergency situations.

He has urged the Union government to immediately withdraw the new pension scheme and continue with the existing facilities in the interest of the working class. He also called on workers to unitedly fight against the new pension scheme.
